BFNHS works to improve the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood.
Broadway-Fillmore Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (BFNHS) is a neighborhood-based, not-for-profit corporation. The primary purpose of the organization is the provision of decent housing that is affordable to low and moderate income persons and families. Almost 100% of all persons who benefit from BFNHS housing programs are low-income (less than 80% of the area median income) or very low income (less than 50% of area median income).

A unique public/private partnership that provides capital and organizational support to transformational projects in targeted areas along four East Side commercial corridors. East Side Avenues provides capacity building, funding and organizational support to complement five specific initiatives along Bailey, Fillmore, Jefferson and Michigan Avenues.

The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) is a non-profit organization driven by a mission to develop the Buffalo Central Terminal – a majestic historic landmark – as a lasting cultural and economic hub for the community. Game changing investment from the East Side Avenues initiative in 2019 has enabled the CTRC to grow organizational capacity and build unprecedented momentum for the future of the Buffalo Central Terminal.

The State of New York’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) seeks to “transform communities ripe for development into vibrant neighborhoods where the next generation of New Yorkers will want to live, work, and raise a family.” In the WNY region, the program allocated the City of Buffalo with $10 million to support the implementation of catalytic investment projects and the development of strategies that will transform the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood, both for current and future residents.

Jericho Road Community Health Center provides high-quality medical care for the whole family — especially people with limited access to medical care, like families living in poverty, refugees, and immigrants. We provide full-spectrum care to all, even those without insurance or the ability to pay. All of our services exist for and with our patients in mind.

Open year-round, the Market (located at 999 Broadway in East Buffalo) is best known for its meat stands, fresh produce, bakery items and restaurants. But at Easter, festival season kicks into high gear and locals migrate to the market stock up on holiday favorites.

Between the Buffalo Central Terminal and the Broadway Market, a neighborhood with a very rich history has unfortunately suffered from decades of disinvestment, segregation, and aggressive demolition efforts. This website shows the results of an interdisciplinary Architecture and Urban Planning studio at the University at Buffalo, completed in the fall of 2021. Here, you can see the outcomes of thorough analysis of the neighborhood, visions for its improvements, and urban designs for strategic blocks and streets within the neighborhood.

WITHIN makes space for community members to be the architects of their own neighborhoods. As an open, inclusive, community-driven initiative, we bring together neighborhood voices, trusted partners, and supportive funders in an effort to better the wellbeing of all who call Buffalo’s East Side home. Together, we collaboratively identify projects that sustain positive momentum, and together, we get things done.
